The curtain is coming down sooner than expected for Megan Thee Stallion on Broadway.
The three-time Grammy winner has announced that her final performance as Zidler in Moulin Rouge! The Musical will now take place on May 1 at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre—more than two weeks ahead of her originally scheduled May 17 exit.
In a statement, Megan confirmed the sudden change, writing:
“Unfortunately, my last performance on Moulin Rouge! The Musical will be May 1. It’s been such an honor to be part of Moulin Rouge and I’ve met so many amazing people in this theatre! Y’all work so hard and I have so much respect for the dedication, the stamina, the work ethic, the time and the effort y’all put into the work! Every single person at the Moulin Rouge has inspired me to go harder as an entertainer. I’m so grateful for the cast and crew that made this experience so meaningful. Y’all are really some of the kindest human beings I’ve ever met! To all the Hotties that showed up or planned to attend, thank you for supporting me during this incredible journey!”
The timing of the announcement lands just days after Megan publicly accused her partner, Klay Thompson, of cheating—allegations that reportedly led to their breakup on April 25.
Megan first stepped into the role on March 24, making history as the first female-identifying performer to take on Zidler—a character traditionally played as Harold Zidler—across any Moulin Rouge! production worldwide. The role was originally created on Broadway by Tony winner Danny Burstein.
As for what happens next, no official replacement has been announced for the May 2–17 window, though understudy Patrick Clanton is expected to cover performances. Veteran cast member Eric Anderson—who previously played Zidler for two years—will return to the role starting May 19.
The show itself isn’t going anywhere just yet. Moulin Rouge! The Musical has already extended its Broadway run by five weeks and is now set to close on August 30.
Megan’s Broadway stint marked yet another expansion of a career that already spans chart-topping hits like “Savage (Remix)” with Beyoncé and “WAP” with Cardi B, alongside acting roles in projects like P-Valley and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.
With her exit now fast approaching—and no confirmed successor yet in place—the spotlight shifts back to who will step into Zidler’s shoes next, and how long Megan’s brief but historic Broadway run will resonate once the final bow lands.
