Tina Knowles brought her gumbo to the Houston Rodeo, but the pop-up hit an unexpected pause before the week was over.

According to reports, Mama Tina’s Gumbo was temporarily shut down by the Houston Health Department on Monday, March 16, during the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. The booth, which had been operating near the Ferris wheel, was closed as part of what officials described as a complaint investigation.

But the shutdown did not last long. In a statement published by KTRK-TV on Wednesday, March 18, the agency clarified the vendor cooperated with recommendations, passed a follow-up inspection and was cleared to reopen on Tuesday, March 17.

"On Monday, March 16, 2026, the Houston Health Department issued a temporary closure of Mama Tina's Gumbo booth at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo as a result of a complaint investigation. The vendor was cooperative with the department's recommendations and passed a subsequent inspection. It was authorized to reopen on Tuesday, March 17, 2026," said Houston Health Department Director, Dr. Theresa Tran.

The brief closure came just weeks after Tina announced that she would be bringing her cooking to the Rodeo from March 2 through March 22. In a February 21 social media video, she teased the launch with her usual flair, walking into a kitchen in cowgirl boots and standing over a large branded pot.

“Hey, you know it’s not my first rodeo, or my first pot of gumbo,” she said in the clip.

She added, “I been doing this for years, and people been asking for this gumbo, so we are debuting Ms. Tina’s Gumbo at the 2026 Houston Rodeo.”

That rollout helped make the booth one of the more talked-about celebrity food moments at the event. Tina also kept the buzz going online, posting about familiar faces who stopped by for a bowl, including former Destiny’s Child member LeToya Luckett and Houston rapper Bun B.

“My gorgeous Girl, @letoyaluckett came by and got some Gumbo and she loved it❤️,” Tina wrote in one post.
