Usher’s latest concert stop took an awkward turn after a fan appeared uncomfortable during one of his signature onstage moments.
The R&B legend was performing in Nashville on Saturday, July 25, as part of The R&B Tour with Chris Brown when he invited a woman onstage for his well-known interactive fan segment. The routine usually includes playful dancing and flirtatious moments, but this time, the fan did not seem fully into it.
In the viral clip, Usher appeared shirtless as he tried to continue the performance with the woman. However, she repeatedly pulled away and seemed hesitant as the interaction played out in front of the crowd.
The moment became even more uncomfortable when Usher motioned for her to lie back on a bed prop onstage. Instead, she stepped away from him.
Usher then looked toward the audience and addressed what was happening.
“I don’t think she want to be on the stage, huh?” he said.
The singer then signaled for crew members to escort the woman offstage before bringing another fan up to continue the segment. Some people in the crowd could be heard booing as the original fan left the stage.
The video quickly spread across social media, where fans were split over the moment. Some questioned why the woman agreed to go onstage if she did not want to participate in Usher’s routine, while others felt the singer handled the situation after noticing she was uncomfortable.
The woman later identified herself online as Gabrielle Cheyenne and responded to the criticism. She explained that she did want to go onstage, but claimed she was not told exactly what the segment would involve.
“First off NOBODY is declining to go on stage,” she wrote, adding that she wanted the crowd to see her look.
Cheyenne also said she and her mother were originally seated on the floor before being upgraded to VIP. She pushed back against people assuming she should have gone along with everything that happened onstage.
The fan later posted that she was “unbothered” and called out people judging an experience they did not personally have.
