Ray J has entered the Tank vs. Tyrese post-Verzuz discourse, and he did not come quietly.
In a clip now making the rounds online, Ray J took aim at Tyrese’s performance during Thursday night’s Verzuz, saying he “was trash” and even worse than Ray’s own infamous turn on the platform. The comment quickly picked up steam with fans piling into the debate over whether Ray J was joking, hating, or just saying what a lot of viewers were already thinking.
The timing is messy enough to make it hit harder. Tank and Tyrese faced off on March 26 in a Verzuz billed as “For the Ladies,” streamed through Apple Music and Verzuz. The matchup was already loaded with history, since the two previously worked together in TGT, and both had been talking spicy before the battle. Tyrese teased that it would be “easy work,” while Tank leaned into the trolling ahead of showtime.
That is what makes Ray J’s jab land the way it does. He knows exactly what it means to get clowned after a Verzuz appearance. Back in June 2022, during the Omarion vs. Mario event’s pre-show, Ray J went viral for his strained performance of “One Wish” while holding his son onstage. The moment became instant meme fuel, and even Brandy publicly dragged him afterward, joking that he should have listened to her vocal advice.
Ray J’s latest comments also arrive after a rocky stretch for him personally and professionally. In February, he was back in headlines after a disturbing performance in Shreveport sparked concern and criticism, with his team later saying he has been dealing with serious health and heart issues.
