Rumors move faster than facts, and for a few tense hours early Thursday, social media had already decided NBA Ben 10 was dead.

Instead, what appears to have happened is just as chaotic, but not the same. NBA Ben 10, the rapper and close NBA YoungBoy affiliate born Ben Anthony Fields, was reportedly among two people shot during a violent incident at Confessions in Houston. Houston police said both victims were taken to local hospitals in critical condition.

The panic online only grew after vague posts and clipped updates started circulating, but a message shared by OG 3Three’s mother pushed back on the death rumors. “Ten is alert… Stop the made-up stories,” she wrote on Instagram Story, according to multiple reports that surfaced Thursday morning.

Police have painted a messy and violent picture of what allegedly led up to the shooting. According to Lt. R. Wilkins, the confrontation appears to have started with an attempted chain-snatching. He told reporters that investigators believe a suspect got into an altercation with a group of men, was wrestled to the ground, and may have had his chains taken before the fight escalated further.

Wilkins said the man at the center of that fight was then being beaten by several people when he pulled out a gun and started firing. Police said two people were struck, one multiple times in the torso and another several times in the arms and lower extremities. As of the latest public update, authorities had not identified a shooter and said the investigation was ongoing.

That left fans scrambling for answers, not just because of the graphic police details, but because of who Ben 10 is in the broader NBA YoungBoy orbit. He has long been known online as one of YoungBoy’s closest affiliates, so any report involving him was always going to hit the rap internet hard and spread even harder before official information caught up.
