Akon is back in the headlines — this time for his blunt take on monogamy.
Speaking in a recent interview, the Senegalese-American artist said he believes men are not naturally wired for single-partner commitment, arguing that monogamy does not align with human nature.
“We’re not committed. We’re not built to be committed,” he said. “We’re natural builders by nature… we populate because that’s how God created us to be. So we can’t be committed to one, or two, or three… it’s not our thing.”
He went on to draw a clear distinction between commitment and what he called “faithfulness,” suggesting the two are often confused.
“We’re not wired to be committed. But faithfulness is something totally different,” Akon said. “I can be with a chick and be with her forever through all the problems. No matter what, I can find the baddest chick alive and have my main chick.”
Expanding on that idea, he described faithfulness as emotional loyalty rather than exclusivity. “She means nothing to me because this is what I’m faithful to,” he said, referring to a hypothetical scenario. “That’s faithfulness — that’s creating that energy to fight for it.”
He added, “Now, commitment… we’re guilty. We’re not committed. We’re gonna be with multiple women. That’s just who we are. We can’t… that’s nature.”
The comments quickly circulated online, with clips from the interview gaining traction across social media and reigniting discussions around masculinity, relationships, and the meaning of loyalty.

Akon has previously spoken openly about his views on relationships and has long been associated with polygamous beliefs, often framing them as rooted in culture and personal philosophy.
As the clip continues to spread, the conversation around what defines commitment — and whether it’s choice or nature — doesn’t look like it’s slowing down anytime soon.
