Offset was hospitalized after a shooting outside the Hard Rock in Florida late Monday, as details around the incident began unfolding.
The rapper was shot shortly after 7 p.m. in the valet area of the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, according to the Seminole Police Department. A representative later confirmed that Offset was in the hospital receiving medical care, was stable, and was being closely monitored. Two people were taken into custody after the shooting, though police have not yet publicly explained what led to the gunfire.
Lil Tjay’s name entered the story soon after reports said he had been arrested at the scene for his involvement in a fight that happened before the shooting.
According to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, the Bronx rapper was booked on a misdemeanor disorderly conduct-affray charge and was being held on $500 bond. As speculation started flying online, his attorney Dawn M. Florio shut down the more explosive claims, saying, “Lil Tjay has not been shot, nor has Lil Tjay been charged with any shooting. Any reporting to the contrary is false.”
That did not stop the internet from running with its own version of events. In the hours after the shooting, social media posts began tying Lil Tjay directly to the chaos, with some users claiming both rappers had been shot and others pushing unverified theories about what happened outside the casino.
Part of why those claims spread so quickly is because there had already been online chatter about possible tension between Offset and Lil Tjay, including rumors of a gambling-related dispute and claims that Offset owed money. None of that had been officially confirmed, but it gave people an easy story to latch onto once the shooting made headlines.
Police have also said a second person was taken into custody Monday night, though that individual had not yet been charged. “The site is secure and there is no threat to the public,” authorities said, adding that the investigation remains ongoing. For now, officials still have not said whether the fight tied to Lil Tjay had any direct connection to the shooting itself.
The incident hits differently given Offset’s history. The rapper, born Kiari Kendrell Cephus, rose to fame as part of Migos and remains one of the group’s biggest stars. It also comes four years after fellow Migos rapper Takeoff was fatally shot outside a Houston club, a loss Offset has said still weighs heavily on him. In a 2023 interview with Variety, he admitted, “It’s hard for me to talk about s–t right now. I’ve never talked about this stuff. Seriously. Talking about Take is hard, man. Talking about all this s–t is hard.”
As investigators work to piece together what happened outside the Hard Rock, the bigger question is how much of the story that took over social media will hold up once the facts come in.
