Burna Boy’s music has been pulled from Nigerian DJ Association playlists after the group responded to his reported altercation with DJ Tunez at a Lagos event.
The NDJ announced the move in a statement posted after the incident, saying Burna Boy’s music is “temporarily out of any of our DJs' playlists till further notice” while the association carries out what it described as a proper investigation into what happened to DJ Tunez. The group said it stands firmly on the idea that “all DJs are equal” and added that it is against discrimination of any of its members.
The NDJ’s statement expanded on its position by stressing respect, equality, and dignity for DJs across Nigeria and in the diaspora. It urged DJs nationwide to remain vigilant and respectful toward artists at events, while making clear that it viewed the incident as serious enough to warrant immediate action as the review continues.
The decision followed reports of a confrontation between Burna Boy and DJ Tunez at Obi’s House, the weekly nightlife gathering hosted by Obi Cubana in Lagos. What began as a disagreement reportedly escalated into a physical altercation before people at the venue stepped in to break it up.
Soon after, DJ Tunez reacted on X with a series of posts that were later deleted. In them, he wrote, “OGBAFIA NUMBER 1 DON WAKE OOO!” before adding, “THIS N**** BURNA BOY! ALL SIGNS OF WEAKNESS!” He also alleged, “FIRST OFF…. YOU HIT ME IN THE BACK OF MY HEAD WITHOUT ME LOOKING!”
The clash has landed against the backdrop of tensions that had already been brewing online. In the aftermath of Burna Boy’s concert controversy last November, when he faced criticism for removing a sleeping fan from his show, his team later began serving coffee to fans at performances. DJ Tunez publicly mocked the move on X at the time, joking that no coffee would be served at his own events and that fans were free to sleep.

What started as a reported scuffle at one of Lagos’ biggest weekly gatherings had turned into a larger industry story, with the country’s DJ association stepping in and Burna Boy’s songs being taken off playlists pending further notice. What happens next will likely depend on the outcome of the NDJ’s investigation and whether either side decides to address the fallout further.
