Tyla is making sure the next generation of female artists gets a shot at the spotlight.

The South African superstar has announced the launch of her “That Girl” Music Scholarship, a $50,000 initiative designed to help young women pursue careers in music and the creative arts. And while the Grammy winner has spent the past few years building her own international career, she's now turning her attention to helping other women follow in her footsteps.

Created in partnership with Sony Music and the Institute of International Education (IIE), the scholarship will award $5,000 each to 10 deserving students facing financial barriers to higher education.

Six scholarships will go to students in the United States, while four will be reserved for women in Tyla's home country of South Africa.

Tyla Is Bringing Her Success Back Home

The scholarship takes its name from “That Girl,” a track featured on Tyla's recent album, APop*, and reflects the singer's growing commitment to creating opportunities for young women in the entertainment industry.

For American applicants, the program will focus on students attending eligible institutions in or near six cities: New York City, Washington, D.C., Tampa, Atlanta, Houston, and Los Angeles.

Meanwhile, South African students who are currently enrolled in university or planning to begin their studies in 2027 will also have the opportunity to apply.

The funding is intended to cover tuition and mandatory educational fees, providing some financial relief to students working toward degrees in music and arts-related disciplines.

Scholarship Winners Will Also Get to Meet Tyla

The opportunity doesn't end with financial assistance.

All 10 scholarship recipients will receive tickets to a Tyla concert, along with an exclusive private meet-and-greet with the singer.

Applicants must demonstrate academic achievement and financial need to be considered. The application process also requires a personal statement of up to 3,000 characters, a 30-second introductory video, official academic transcripts, and documentation outlining expected tuition expenses.

Applications are currently open, although eligibility requirements differ between the U.S. and South Africa.

From ‘Water’ to Opening Doors for the Next Generation

Tyla's announcement comes as the singer continues to establish herself as one of South Africa's biggest international music exports.

Since launching her career in 2019, she has gone from an emerging Johannesburg talent to a global star, propelled by the massive success of her breakout single “Water,” which reached the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Now, rather than keeping that success to herself, Tyla is using her platform to invest in the women hoping to build careers of their own.
