The parents of late Migos rapper Takeoff are reportedly locked in a legal dispute over how money from a confidential wrongful death settlement should be divided.
Takeoff’s mother, Titania Davenport, and father, Kenneth Ball, have presented competing arguments over who is entitled to the settlement proceeds and which state should handle the dispute.
Takeoff, whose real name was Kirsnick Khari Ball, was fatally shot outside a Houston bowling alley on November 1, 2022. He was 28 years old.
Takeoff’s Mother Details Their Close Relationship
According to court documents obtained by TMZ, Davenport claims she maintained a close relationship with Takeoff throughout his life and was his primary caregiver.
She says she raised the rapper as a single mother and provided nearly all of his financial and emotional support during his childhood. Davenport also claims she continued supporting him while he worked to establish his music career.
After Takeoff found success as a member of Migos, Davenport says he returned that support by purchasing her a house and vehicles and paying several of her living expenses.
Davenport has challenged Ball’s attempt to obtain a portion of the wrongful death settlement. She alleges that Takeoff’s father offered little financial or emotional support while the rapper was growing up.
Ball reportedly maintains that he is legally entitled to receive part of the wrongful death settlement as Takeoff’s father.
He is seeking to have the disagreement handled in Texas, where the wrongful death lawsuit was filed and eventually settled.
Davenport is opposing that request. She argues that Georgia should have authority over the dispute because probate proceedings involving Takeoff’s estate are already underway in the state.
She also notes that the original Texas wrongful death case has effectively ended following the confidential settlement.
Settlement Amount Remains Confidential
The amount paid to settle the wrongful death lawsuit has not been publicly disclosed.
A judge has also not decided how the money should be divided between Takeoff’s parents or whether the matter should remain in Texas or be handled through the Georgia probate proceedings.
The legal dispute remains pending.
Takeoff rose to fame alongside Quavo and Offset as part of the Grammy-nominated rap group Migos. His death sent shockwaves through the hip-hop community, with fans and fellow artists continuing to honor his life and musical legacy.
