The man accused of killing Takeoff is making a new legal move just months before he is expected to stand trial.

Patrick Xavier Clark, who has been charged with murder in connection with the Migos rapper’s 2022 death, is asking a judge for permission to have an independent expert examine evidence held by the Houston Police Department.

According to court documents obtained by TMZ, that evidence reportedly includes bullets connected to the deadly shooting.

Clark has denied killing Takeoff and is preparing for a murder trial currently scheduled for November.

Clark’s attorneys are seeking access to several pieces of physical evidence as they prepare his defense.

The defense reportedly wants an independent expert to conduct its own examination rather than relying solely on testing or conclusions produced during the police investigation.

Among the evidence Clark wants reviewed are the alleged bullets recovered in connection with the shooting.

The request could give his defense team an opportunity to independently evaluate ballistic evidence before jurors hear the case.

Clark was arrested in December 2022, about one month after Takeoff was fatally shot outside a Houston bowling alley.

Takeoff, whose real name was Kirsnik Khari Ball, was killed on November 1, 2022.

Authorities have accused Clark of firing the shot that killed the 28-year-old rapper.

Clark was later formally indicted on a murder charge and has maintained that he was not responsible for Takeoff’s death.

The shooting occurred outside 810 Billiards & Bowling Houston following a gathering attended by Takeoff and fellow Migos member Quavo.

An argument reportedly broke out before gunfire erupted.

Takeoff was struck and pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have previously said the rapper was not armed and was not believed to have been directly involved in the dispute that led to the shooting.

Clark was identified as a suspect during the investigation and arrested several weeks later.

With Clark’s trial approaching, the latest request suggests his attorneys are taking a closer look at the physical evidence prosecutors may rely on in court.

Ballistic evidence could become an important part of the case as prosecutors attempt to prove who fired the fatal shots.

Clark’s defense, meanwhile, will have an opportunity to challenge the government’s evidence and present its own expert findings if the court grants access.

A jury will ultimately determine whether prosecutors can prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Clark was responsible for Takeoff’s death.

The criminal case is not the only legal matter still connected to Takeoff’s death.

His parents have also reportedly been involved in a dispute over how money from a wrongful-death lawsuit settlement should be divided.

That civil fight is separate from Clark’s upcoming criminal trial.
