A former Chick-fil-A employee has been arrested after police say he carried out an $80,000 theft scheme using the restaurant’s register in Grapevine, Texas.

According to the Grapevine Police Department, the suspect allegedly rang up more than 800 orders of mac and cheese trays and then refunded the money to his personal credit cards. Authorities say the total amount taken was just over $80,000.

Security footage reportedly shows the employee using the register to process the transactions, repeatedly charging and refunding the same items as part of the scheme.

Police said the suspect had been fired about a month before the incident but was left unattended at the time the transactions were made.

The theft was reported by the restaurant’s owner/operator, Jarvis Boyd, prompting an investigation that began in November 2025. Officials say the suspect, identified as Jones, evaded arrest several times before being taken into custody on April 17, 2026.

His arrest was carried out with assistance from the Texas Attorney General’s Fugitive Task Force and the Fort Worth Police Department.

Jones now faces multiple charges, including property theft, money laundering, and evading arrest.

A spokesperson for Chick-fil-A declined to comment on the case, citing the ongoing investigation.

The incident adds to a growing number of high-profile retail and internal theft cases in the U.S., highlighting how point-of-sale systems can be exploited when oversight breaks down.
