Rick Ross and French Montana are bringing Verzuz back to the club.

The two rappers are set to face off on Thursday, May 7, in the latest edition of the hit-for-hit series. This one is being billed as a celebration of “club anthems,” which makes sense for two artists whose catalogs have lived loudly in parties, cars, and late-night playlists for more than a decade. Verzuz has confirmed the battle for 6:30 p.m. PT and 9:30 p.m. ET. Apple Music is also listing the event as VERZUZ: French Montana x Rick Ross.

For Ross, this marks a return to the Verzuz stage. The Miami rapper previously battled 2 Chainz in 2020, during the era when Verzuz became one of music’s biggest pandemic-era live-stream events. This time, however, the energy feels different. Instead of a straight rivalry, the matchup brings together two artists with a long collaborative history and a shared place in 2010s rap culture.

French Montana has already framed the night as more celebration than competition. Speaking to Complex, he described the battle as “student versus the teacher” and called Ross his brother, adding that Rozay was one of the people who helped discover him during his rise.

That connection is part of what makes the matchup interesting. Ross and French are not strangers meeting in the middle of a catalog fight. They have been on records together, moved through the same rap circles, and helped define an era where luxury rap, trap drums, and bottle-service hooks crossed over into the mainstream. Songs like “Stay Schemin’” and “Pop That” are exactly the kind of records fans expect to hear when Verzuz promises club anthems.

The battle also arrives during Verzuz’s renewed run. After first gaining cultural momentum through Swizz Beatz and Timbaland’s Instagram battles, the series grew into a platform for major hip-hop, R&B, gospel, dancehall, and producer showdowns. Since its relaunch, Verzuz has continued to lean into big-name pairings and live-event energy, giving fans a reason to revisit catalogs in real time.

Fans can watch the Rick Ross and French Montana Verzuz battle live through Apple Music, with Verzuz also promoting Complex’s YouTube as a streaming option.
