The Memphis rapper's legal team has filed an emergency motion challenging his solitary confinement and limited family visits while he awaits trial in the alleged Gucci Mane kidnapping case.

Pooh Shiesty is fighting a battle beyond his ongoing criminal case, with his attorneys now raising serious concerns about the conditions he's allegedly being forced to endure behind bars.

The Memphis rapper, whose real name is Lontrell Williams Jr., is reportedly spending 23 hours a day confined to his cell at Rolling Plains Regional Jail in Texas, according to an emergency motion filed by his legal team on Thursday, October 15.

The filing, obtained by Complex, alleges that Shiesty has been subjected to prolonged isolation despite having no significant disciplinary history or reported violent behavior during his current detention. His attorneys also claim jail officials have restricted his family visitation privileges, leaving him with limited opportunities for human interaction.

And according to his family, the isolation is beginning to take a visible toll.

Pooh Shiesty's Family Says His Mental Health Is Deteriorating Behind Bars

One of the most troubling accounts in the filing comes from Shiesty's aunt, who described witnessing a noticeable change in her nephew's emotional well-being since his transfer to the Texas facility.

In a declaration submitted alongside the motion, she explained that she had traveled from Memphis to visit the rapper, only to have their time together cut short after one hour.

Jail staff reportedly informed her that Shiesty was limited to just two hours of visitation per month, and his girlfriend had already used one of those hours approximately two weeks earlier.

"To visit him, I must take time off from work and incur significant travel expenses," she explained, adding that the brief visit offered little opportunity for meaningful interaction.

Beyond the visitation restrictions, she expressed concern about his deteriorating condition.

She described Shiesty as increasingly anxious, emotionally exhausted and appearing severely depressed after spending nearly every hour of the day alone in a small cell.

His attorneys similarly claim the rapper has reported difficulty sleeping and heightened anxiety as a result of his confinement.

Lawyers Question Why Pooh Shiesty Is Being Kept in Solitary Confinement

According to the emergency motion, jail officials have justified Shiesty's isolation as a protective measure. However, his attorneys argue that authorities have failed to identify any specific danger requiring such restrictive conditions.

"He has not been told who or what poses a threat to him, and no one has explained why confining him to his cell 23 hours per day is necessary to address it," the filing states.

The defense maintains that Shiesty has not engaged in threatening or violent conduct behind bars that would otherwise warrant disciplinary segregation.

His attorney, Kent Schaffer, told Complex that the legal team is seeking court intervention to ensure the rapper receives appropriate treatment while awaiting trial.

"We filed a motion seeking humane treatment for Lontrell while he is incarcerated," Schaffer said.

He emphasized that Shiesty has not been convicted in the current case and argued that the conditions of his detention should not amount to punishment before trial.

The motion also asks the court to direct the U.S. Marshals Service to ensure Shiesty receives at least four hours of monthly visitation, rather than the two hours his lawyers claim he currently receives.

As of the initial report, the U.S. Marshals Service, Bureau of Prisons and the company operating the facility had not publicly responded to requests for comment.

Pooh Shiesty Still Awaits Trial Over Alleged Gucci Mane Kidnapping

The latest legal dispute comes as Shiesty remains in federal custody following his April 1, 2026, arrest in connection with the alleged kidnapping and robbery of his former label boss, Gucci Mane.

Federal prosecutors accuse the rapper and several others of participating in an incident at a Dallas recording studio in January, during which Gucci Mane was allegedly threatened and forced to release Shiesty from his recording contract.

Shiesty has pleaded not guilty to the charges and continues to contest the allegations.

His legal team previously attempted to secure his release on bond, but a judge denied the request in July, leaving him in custody until trial.

The proceedings are currently scheduled to begin on February 22, 2027.

For now, however, his attorneys are focused on what happens long before he enters a courtroom.

With months remaining until trial, the defense argues that keeping Shiesty isolated for 23 hours a day, with minimal family contact and no clearly explained security threat, raises serious questions about his treatment as a pretrial detainee.
