The legal case surrounding the death of Nicki Minaj’s father has officially come to an end.
Years after Robert Maraj was killed in a fatal hit-and-run crash, the civil lawsuit connected to his death has reportedly been settled. According to court filings reviewed by TMZ, the wrongful death case filed by Nicki’s mother, Carol Maraj, was resolved in March. The financial terms of the settlement have not been made public.
Robert Maraj died in February 2021 after being struck while walking in Mineola, New York. The driver, Charles Polevich, was later arrested and accused of leaving the scene. He eventually pleaded guilty to charges connected to the crash and served jail time.
The civil case focused on the emotional and personal loss suffered by the Maraj family. Carol Maraj’s lawsuit sought damages tied to the loss of companionship and the lasting impact of Robert’s death.

One of the more controversial moments in the case came when Polevich attempted to subpoena Nicki Minaj. His legal team reportedly wanted to question her under oath and use her lyrics to suggest that she had previously described a difficult relationship with her family. The argument appeared aimed at reducing the damages being sought in the case.
That request was not granted, and the lawsuit moved forward without Nicki being deposed.
The case ultimately ended through settlement rather than a public trial. Polevich had already completed his one-year sentence related to the hit-and-run and evidence-related charges before the civil matter was resolved.
Nicki Minaj has not publicly commented on the settlement. While the agreement closes the legal chapter of the case, the loss of Robert Maraj remains a deeply personal one for the family.
