Nicki Minaj is looking back on parts of her catalog with a different perspective.
During an appearance on The Bryce Crawford Podcast, the Queens rap superstar opened up about some of her older music and admitted that she would change certain lyrics if she had the chance. According to Minaj, some of the music culture she helped influence was more focused on money, status, and material success than on values she now feels are more important.
The comments quickly caught attention because Nicki has long been known for her sharp lyricism, bold alter egos, and unapologetic delivery. However, in this latest conversation, she appeared to reflect more seriously on the impact her music may have had on listeners.
Minaj said that some of the culture around her music was not necessarily leading people “toward God,” but instead toward material things. She also made it clear that she is willing to take accountability for parts of her career that she now views with regret.
The moment adds another layer to Nicki’s history of publicly reassessing her own music. Back in 2020, during a fan Q&A at the Pollstar Live Conference, Minaj admitted that she strongly disliked some of her biggest records, including “Your Love,” “Starships,” and “Anaconda.”
“My first ever solo song on Billboard was ‘Your Love,’” she said at the time. “To this day I like the video but I hate the song.”
She also singled out “Starships,” questioning why she made the track despite its massive commercial success. The song went on to become one of the biggest pop-rap records of her career and was certified Diamond in 2024.
Still, Nicki’s latest remarks are not just about musical preference. This time, her reflection appears to be tied to a deeper spiritual concern about the messages behind the music and the influence artists can have on their audiences.
