The singer posted a photo of herself with the Atlanta rapper on Instagram Stories Sunday as he celebrated his 35th birthday.
“Happy bday baby doll,” Mariah wrote alongside a cake emoji while tagging Young Thug.
The message was clearly meant to be affectionate, but the nickname “babydoll” immediately caught social media’s attention.
Once the post began circulating beyond Mariah’s page, fans quickly turned the sweet birthday tribute into a debate over whether “babydoll” is something you call your fiancé.
