Lil Durk has reportedly been placed in solitary confinement at a Los Angeles federal detention center just days before a crucial bond hearing that could determine whether he is released ahead of his next trial.
According to TMZ, the Grammy-winning rapper, whose real name is Durk Banks, was transferred to the Special Housing Unit (SHU) at the Metropolitan Detention Center on Friday, October 30.
Jose Rojas, a union secretary representing Bureau of Prisons employees, confirmed the transfer, while sources familiar with the situation claimed the decision followed a disagreement between Durk and correctional staff.
The sources alleged that officers had repeatedly searched the rapper’s cell for contraband, including unauthorized phones, but had not discovered any prohibited items since his September acquittal.
Durk reportedly questioned a deputy warden about the frequent searches and was subsequently accused of “talking back,” allegedly leading to his placement in solitary confinement.
The Bureau of Prisons declined to address the allegations, citing privacy and security concerns.
“For privacy, safety, and security reasons we do not discuss the conditions of confinement for any individual in our custody,” a spokesperson told TMZ.
Lil Durk’s Bond Hearing Draws Support From Jay-Z and J. Cole
The reported disciplinary action comes ahead of Durk’s November 4 bond hearing, where his attorneys are seeking his release while he awaits trial on separate federal charges.
Several prominent figures, including Jay-Z, J. Cole and Fanatics CEO Michael Rubin, have submitted letters supporting his release.
Durk was acquitted of murder-for-hire and related charges on September 11, 2026, following a closely watched federal trial involving a fatal 2022 shooting in Los Angeles.
Despite that verdict, the Chicago rapper remains behind bars as he faces separate murder-related racketeering and firearms charges, to which he has pleaded not guilty.
His upcoming trial, originally expected to take place in October, has since been postponed until August 2027.
