Lil Baby is putting money back into the ends he came from.
In a new vlog uploaded to his YouTube channel, the Atlanta rapper returned to his old neighborhood Oakland City with his sons Jason and Loyal and walked through a stretch of vacant houses and nearby homes already being renovated. Pointing to the changes happening around him, Baby said, “See, that’s how they already doing the neighborhood. They’re making the neighborhood some new houses.”
He then made it clear why he wants in. “I did too much in and around the hood,” he said. “N****s be like, they doing all this and that by the hood. They don’t even own nothing.”
Baby said he is buying properties he used to “hustle in front of” before rap changed his life. Looking back at one of the buildings, he said, “It was times when this [was] abandoned. I still was standing here while it was abandoned. No lights, no water, no nothing.”
The move is personal, but it is also practical. In the same clip, Baby said the homes have “sentimental value,” and added that he may turn them into affordable living properties. XXL also reported that he plans to fix up the houses he has purchased within the next three to four months and eventually pass them down to his sons.
Lil Baby has made a habit of showing up for Atlanta beyond the music. Most recently, he partnered with Lil Yachty for a local toy drive during Christmas, and this latest Oakland City visit shows that giving back may now include real estate, ownership, and affordable housing in his old neighborhood too.
