Kim Kardashian is clearing the air after fans questioned the timing of her latest Instagram post.
The SKIMS founder faced backlash after sharing a lake-day carousel with Khloé Kardashian shortly after news broke that their grandmother, Mary Jo “MJ” Shannon, had died at age 91. MJ’s passing was announced by Kris Jenner on Thursday, July 16, through an emotional Instagram tribute.
Kim’s post showed her and Khloé spending time by the water in bikinis. Other photos in the carousel included moments of wakeboarding, dirt bikes, food and drinks.
However, some fans felt the timing was insensitive as the Kardashian-Jenner family had just publicly entered a period of mourning. Commenters quickly began asking why the reality star was posting vacation content so soon after the loss.
Kim later responded directly in the comment section and explained that the post had been scheduled before MJ’s death. She said the timing happened to overlap with her grandmother’s passing and was not meant to distract from the family’s grief.
According to Kim, she had been by her mother and grandmother’s side throughout the week and her heart was fully with her family. She added that the days ahead would be focused on celebrating MJ’s life.
The clarification quickly gained attention, with many fans showing support after learning the post was preplanned.
Shortly after the lake photos, Kim shared a separate tribute to MJ. She remembered her grandmother as her best friend, gossip buddy and forever twin. Kim also credited MJ with teaching her about work ethic after giving her a first job at her children’s boutique in San Diego.
Kris Jenner also honored MJ in her own tribute, calling her the heart of their family and thanking her for teaching them the importance of love, kindness and showing up for one another.
