Kodak Black is finally addressing those Drake comparisons through his music.
The Florida rapper released “Lil Birdie,” his own take on Drake’s “Little Birdie,” after months of fans pointing out similarities between Drake’s track and Kodak’s signature sound.
Kodak uses the same beat and a similar flow on his version while adding his own melodies and lyrics to the record.
He wastes little time acknowledging the conversation surrounding the two rappers, opening the track with a line suggesting he has noticed the comparisons.
“I don’t know if they payin’ homage, either way I’m in their pocket,” Kodak raps.
Kodak Black Puts His Spin On Drake’s “Little Birdie”
Fans have been asking Kodak to jump on the track since Drake released “Little Birdie” earlier this year.
Listeners quickly began comparing Drake’s cadence on the song to Kodak’s distinctive delivery, leading to calls for the Florida rapper to release his own version or appear on an official remix.
Kodak has now answered those requests with “Lil Birdie.”
Rather than simply recreating Drake’s record, Kodak adds his own melodies and lyrics while leaning into the similarities fans have been discussing.
His opening bars also appear to playfully address whether Drake was intentionally drawing inspiration from his style.
Kodak Black And Drake Have Unreleased Music Together
Despite the comparisons, Kodak and Drake already have an established musical relationship.
Kodak previously revealed that the two rappers have recorded multiple unreleased collaborations together.
“We got a lot of songs though,” Kodak previously said while discussing their unreleased material.
That revelation has fueled speculation about whether fans could eventually hear more collaborations between the two artists.
For now, however, there is no confirmation that Drake will appear on another version of “Lil Birdie” or respond directly to Kodak’s latest release.
Fans Finally Get The Kodak Black Version They Wanted
“Lil Birdie” arrives after months of online discussion surrounding Drake’s original song and its perceived similarities to Kodak Black’s style.
Instead of distancing himself from the comparisons, Kodak appears to be having fun with them.
By jumping on the same production and directly referencing the “homage” conversation, Kodak has turned the viral comparisons into a record of his own.
