Kevin Gates is drawing mixed reactions online after a viral video appeared to show him pushing away a woman who rushed toward him for a picture.

The incident reportedly occurred in Los Angeles during BET Awards weekend. In the footage, Gates is seen walking along a street in a suit while surrounded by photographers and fans.

A woman suddenly runs toward the Louisiana rapper, positions herself beside him and attempts to pose for a photo. Gates briefly looks in her direction before using his arm to move her away and continuing down the street.

The clip quickly sparked debate across social media. Some viewers defended Gates, arguing that the woman had invaded his personal space without permission.

“He ain’t never played about his personal space,” one commenter wrote, adding that the fan should not have approached him so aggressively.

Others criticized the rapper’s response and suggested that his security team should have intervened instead.

“That’s why you need security,” another person commented. “When someone doesn’t respect boundaries, security can handle it so you don’t end up on the blogs looking like this.”

Another viewer argued that Gates’ reaction was excessive because the woman appeared to be an excited fan.

Gates has not publicly addressed the viral encounter. XXL reported that it contacted his representatives for comment.

The moment has also resurfaced discussion of Gates’ previous altercation with a female concertgoer. In 2015, the rapper kicked an 18-year-old fan after she repeatedly grabbed his shorts during a performance at a Florida nightclub.

Gates was later convicted of battery and sentenced to 180 days in jail, along with one year of probation.
