2 Chainz and viral food critic Keith Lee are stirring up controversy after a heated discussion about celebrity privilege, restaurant service and whether famous customers deserve special treatment.
The two faced off during a recent episode of Den of Kings, moderated by Kirk Franklin, where their opposing views on celebrity perks quickly became a talking point across social media.
The disagreement began when 2 Chainz defended the preferential treatment celebrities receive, arguing that their success comes with certain advantages.
“I’m an entertainer and obviously we get perks that other people don’t get,” the rapper explained.
He went on to say that he doesn’t wait in airport lines or for certain services because he has worked hard to earn those privileges.
Keith Lee, however, challenged that perspective, explaining why his restaurant reviews focus on the experience of everyday customers rather than the treatment he receives as a recognizable influencer.
Lee revealed that he often sends family members into restaurants before entering himself to see how staff treat customers who aren’t famous.
He recalled instances in Atlanta where his mother-in-law struggled to receive service, only for a table to suddenly become available once employees recognized him.
“I don’t ever want to put nobody in a situation that they get a different experience only because they not Keith Lee,” he explained.
The conversation became more tense when 2 Chainz questioned whether Lee’s background as an athlete, including years of strict dieting and weight management, affected his ability to judge food.
Lee pushed back, explaining that his experience with nutrition helped develop his passion for cooking and appreciation for the restaurant industry.
The exchange also highlighted the influence Lee holds over small businesses through the widely discussed “Keith Lee effect,” where his reviews can bring significant attention and new customers to restaurants.
Lee argued that restaurant owners cannot invite him to review their food and then become frustrated when his assessment doesn’t match their expectations.
“You ask me to come get my opinion, but then you get upset because my opinion not what you wanted to hear,” Lee said.
The debate has since divided social media users, with some defending 2 Chainz’s position that celebrity perks are earned, while others supported Lee’s commitment to reviewing restaurants from the perspective of ordinary customers.
