A judge has ruled that the woman accused of opening fire at Rihanna and A$AP Rocky’s Los Angeles-area home is mentally competent to stand trial.

Ivanna Lisette Ortiz, 36, was found competent during a brief court hearing on Tuesday, September 29, allowing the criminal case against her to move forward following months of psychiatric evaluations.

Ortiz has pleaded not guilty to attempted murder and more than a dozen additional felony charges connected to the March shooting. No one was physically injured in the incident.

“Criminal proceedings are reinstated,” Judge Maria Cavalluzzi said during the hearing.

Details surrounding Ortiz’s mental health evaluations remain sealed, and there was no extensive discussion of the findings in court. Ortiz appeared behind glass in a custody area wearing jail clothing and handcuffs and did not speak during the hearing.

Prosecutors and police allege that Ortiz drove a Tesla to Rihanna and A$AP Rocky’s Beverly Hills-area property on March 8 before pointing an AR-15-style rifle out of the vehicle and firing at least 20 rounds toward the property and a neighboring residence.

Authorities say several bullets struck an Airstream trailer where Rihanna and Rocky were at the time.

Other rounds allegedly hit the exterior wall of a second-floor nursery where the couple’s three children were reportedly with their nanny.

Despite the number of shots fired, authorities said no one was injured.

Investigators said Ortiz was arrested later that same day. According to authorities, she told investigators following her arrest, “I wasn’t attempting murder.”

Ortiz is facing 10 counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, representing the people who were allegedly present across the two properties during the shooting.

She is also charged with three counts related to shooting at an occupied vehicle or dwelling, along with an attempted murder charge and other alleged offenses.

If convicted on all charges, Ortiz could face life in prison.

Authorities previously said Ortiz had no prior police record. Public records reportedly show that she worked as a licensed speech pathologist for more than a decade.

Investigators have not publicly identified a motive for the shooting or described any known connection between Ortiz and Rihanna.

Tuesday’s competency ruling returns Ortiz’s case to the regular criminal court process after proceedings were previously suspended for psychiatric evaluations.

Her next court hearing is scheduled for Wednesday.

Attorneys representing both sides declined to comment following Tuesday’s hearing, and the documents containing details of Ortiz’s mental evaluations remain sealed.

With criminal proceedings officially reinstated, the case can now continue toward further pretrial hearings and a potential trial.
