Rihanna and A$AP Rocky returned to the Met Gala for a rare parents’ night out, but it did not take long for the internet to turn a few seconds of footage into a full-blown relationship theory.

The couple attended the Met Gala on Monday, May 4, and appeared to enjoy the night while speaking to outlets on the carpet. Soon after, however, clips from behind the scenes began circulating online. One video showed Rihanna and Rocky in the back of a sprinter van during what some viewers described as a tense exchange. Another showed Rihanna giving Rocky a serious look after he was seen speaking with Swarovski creative director Giovanna Engelbert, EJAE, and Tyla.

That was enough for social media to start connecting dots that may not have been there. Some users claimed Rihanna had snubbed Tyla, while others suggested that she and Rocky may have argued during the event.

According to sources who spoke to TMZ, that version of the story is not accurate. The outlet reported that Rihanna and Rocky were not fighting and were simply exhausted after a long day. One source said the couple was “running on empty,” adding that they are happy and that people were “overanalyzing a tired moment.”

Tyla also addressed the speculation after fans dragged her into the conversation. In a TikTok video posted on May 6, the singer said she did briefly meet Rihanna at the Met Gala and had nothing negative to say about the exchange.

“Everyone knows I love Rih, oh my gosh,” Tyla said. “So, I met her last night, and she was cool.”

She then explained that the interaction was short because Rihanna seemed occupied. According to Tyla, she approached Rihanna to say hello, but Rihanna told her, “My baby daddy’s calling me,” before walking away. Tyla said the moment felt slightly awkward on her end because she was not sure how to greet someone who seemed busy.

The clarification appears to shut down the two biggest rumors that came from the viral clips. Rihanna was not shading Tyla, and there is no confirmed evidence that she and Rocky were fighting.
