South Carolina authorities have officially closed their investigation into the death of Hollywood actress Hayden Panettiere, confirming that the 36-year-old died from an accidental drug overdose.

The Greenville Police Department announced its decision on Wednesday, October 28, more than two months after the former “Nashville” and “Heroes” star was found unresponsive at an apartment in Greenville.

Investigators said the decision followed a review of the medical examiner’s findings and evidence collected during the investigation. No criminal charges have been filed, and authorities found no evidence of foul play.

Panettiere died on August 16 after emergency responders were called to the Judson Mill Lofts apartment complex following reports of a possible cardiac arrest. Despite attempts to revive her, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

A toxicology report released in September determined that the actress died from the combined effects of fentanyl, 4-ANPP, alprazolam, methocarbamol, and quetiapine. The medical examiner classified her death as accidental and reported no contributing physical trauma.

Her on-and-off boyfriend, Brian Hickerson, and his brother were reportedly present at the apartment when she died.

While local police have concluded their investigation, it remains unclear whether federal authorities, including the Drug Enforcement Administration, are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding her death.

Meanwhile, Panettiere’s former fiancé, retired boxer Wladimir Klitschko, recently secured legal authority to protect her remaining property on behalf of their 11-year-old daughter, Kaya, who is her sole heir.

The actress had previously spoken publicly about her struggles with addiction and mental health, including in her memoir released earlier this year.

Panettiere’s death at just 36 years old shocked fans who followed her career from childhood stardom to acclaimed television roles.
