Harvey Weinstein has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after being convicted of sexually assaulting former production assistant Miriam Haley, marking another major development in the disgraced Hollywood producer’s years-long legal battle.

A Manhattan jury convicted Weinstein in the New York case following a retrial that came after his original conviction was overturned in 2024.

Haley addressed the court during Wednesday’s sentencing hearing, speaking about the lasting impact of the 2006 assault and the emotional toll of repeatedly participating in criminal proceedings over the years.

“It has often felt like I was the one on trial,” Haley told the court.

She also said the legal process had taken an enormous personal toll and that she had considered withdrawing from the case multiple times.

Weinstein’s latest sentence comes after New York’s highest court overturned his original conviction in 2024.

The court found that legal errors had occurred during the earlier trial, including the admission of testimony involving allegations that were not part of the criminal charges being decided by the jury.

Prosecutors ultimately chose to retry the case.

That retrial resulted in Weinstein being convicted of sexually assaulting Haley, whose testimony again became a central part of the prosecution’s case.

The 15-year sentence followed that conviction.

Weinstein has consistently denied sexually assaulting anyone and has maintained that his sexual encounters were consensual.

His attorneys are expected to appeal both the conviction and the 15-year sentence, meaning the New York case could continue through additional court proceedings.

The former movie executive also remains involved in separate legal proceedings in California stemming from a rape conviction there.

Weinstein was once one of the most powerful figures in Hollywood, producing and distributing some of the industry’s biggest films.

His career collapsed after numerous women publicly accused him of sexual misconduct beginning in 2017.

The allegations helped accelerate the global #MeToo movement, which prompted broader conversations about sexual harassment, abuse and power within Hollywood and other industries.

Since then, Weinstein has faced criminal prosecutions, civil litigation and years of appeals.

Wednesday’s sentencing adds another chapter to that legal saga.

For Haley, however, the hearing was also an opportunity to describe the personal consequences of repeatedly revisiting the allegations through years of courtroom proceedings.
