Crystal Renay, the model and entrepreneur known to many as Ne-Yo’s ex-wife, has publicly defended her longtime friend Sammie, the early-2000s R&B singer behind “I Like It,” after viral footage appeared to show his newborn being left outside his home late at night.
The camera footage shared this week appears to show the mother of Sammie’s child, Marie Brooke, placing the infant, Legend Lee, at his front door before leaving. The clip quickly circulated online and sparked widespread concern.
Renay addressed the situation in a post that began making the rounds online, writing, “OK, so normally I stay out of ALL Internet drama, but this has been my friend since the 6th grade.” She added, “Play with somebody else,” and described Sammie as a “great dad,” while alleging that the baby was left outside in 38-degree weather.

The situation follows claims from Brooke that suggested Sammie had “deadbeat” tendencies, which were later denied by the singer’s attorney. After the footage went viral, Brooke reportedly responded, saying postpartum depression “led to the moment,” adding that she has since received treatment.
As of now, Sammie has not issued a detailed public statement addressing the footage.
