Coco Jones is officially getting her own “Bel-Air” spinoff.
Peacock is developing “Hilary,” a new scripted series centered on Jones’ fan-favorite character Hilary Banks from the hit “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” reimagining.
According to Deadline, the project would mark the first scripted Peacock original to receive a spinoff.
Jones is set to return in the lead role, while “Girls Trip” and “Harlem” creator Tracy Oliver will write the series.
Universal Television and Will Smith’s Westbrook Studios, both of which helped produce “Bel-Air,” are also behind the new project.
Coco Jones’ Hilary Banks Heads to New York
The proposed storyline will follow Hilary Banks as she leaves Los Angeles behind for a new chapter in New York City.
According to the reported logline, Hilary impulsively relocates after receiving an unexpected job offer from celebrity chef Yvonne Durand.
The move gives her a chance to build an identity outside of the wealthy Banks family and the world she has always known.
Once in New York, however, Hilary quickly discovers that building a career, finding real friendships and navigating romance come with challenges she was not expecting.
The setup appears designed to expand the character beyond “Bel-Air” while keeping the ambitious, fashion-forward personality that made Jones’ version of Hilary a standout.
‘Hilary’ Becomes Peacock’s First Scripted Spinoff
The project comes after “Bel-Air” established itself as one of Peacock’s biggest original series.
Inspired by Morgan Cooper’s viral dramatic reimagining of “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” the show transformed Will Smith’s classic sitcom into a more serious family drama.
Jones’ version of Hilary Banks became one of the reboot’s most popular characters over its four-season run.
The success of “Bel-Air” now gives Peacock an opportunity to continue the franchise even after the original series concludes.
“Hilary” would also become the platform’s first scripted original to branch into its own spinoff.
Tracy Oliver Joins ‘Bel-Air’ Universe
Tracy Oliver will bring her own creative voice to the project.
Oliver is best known for co-writing “Girls Trip,” which became a major box-office success and made her the first Black woman to write a film that grossed more than $100 million domestically.
Her television credits also include creating “Harlem” and “First Wives Club.”
Oliver’s involvement suggests “Hilary” could lean further into comedy, romance and career-driven storytelling as the character adjusts to life in New York.
She also has several other projects in development, including follow-ups to “Girls Trip” and “The Blackening.”
Coco Jones Continues Expanding Her Acting Career
The spinoff arrives as Coco Jones continues balancing successful careers in both acting and music.
Outside of “Bel-Air,” Jones has appeared in projects including Netflix’s “Vampires vs. the Bronx” and the psychological thriller “Strung.”
She also recently wrapped production on the upcoming romantic comedy “That’s Her.”
On the music side, Jones has continued building momentum following the release of her debut album, “Why Not More?,” which earned a nomination for Best R&B Album at the 2026 Grammy Awards.
Now, she is preparing to take Hilary Banks from Bel-Air to New York.
Peacock has not yet announced a premiere date or additional casting for “Hilary,” but the project gives Jones the chance to turn one of her most recognizable roles into a series of her own.
