Claressa Shields is firing back at Gervonta “Tank” Davis after the boxer publicly criticized her outfit, dragging his boxing career into an escalating social media feud that has also involved her boyfriend, rapper Papoose.
The undefeated boxing champion appeared to address Davis in a heated post on X on November 4, mocking men who continue to comment on her appearance while reminding followers of her own success in the ring.
The response came after Davis shared footage from Shields’ recent album listening party in Atlanta and called her outfit “a hot a** mess.”
This led to Shield’s boyfriend, rapper Papoose to jump in and the two exchanged a heated back and forth on Instagram stories.

Claressa Shields Appears to Mock Gervonta Davis Over His Boxing Hiatus
Shields didn’t mention Davis by name in her latest post, but fans quickly connected her comments to their ongoing dispute.
“lol oooooweee the devil is busy,” Shields began, before criticizing grown men for repeatedly making her the subject of their conversations.
“I’m an active CHAMPION! UNDEFEATED!” she continued.
The boxer then appeared to take a direct shot at Davis’ recent activity in the ring, writing, “N****s had one close fight and ain’t came back to boxing since.”
Her remarks seemed to reference Davis’ controversial March 2025 fight against Lamont Roach Jr., which ended in a majority draw.
During that fight, Davis unexpectedly took a knee in the ninth round, later explaining that hair grease had gotten into his eyes. The moment became a major talking point among boxing fans, with some questioning why the referee did not rule it a knockdown.
Shields’ comments quickly added another layer to the public disagreement, shifting attention from her fashion choices to Davis’ boxing record.
Gervonta Davis Calls Claressa Shields’ Outfit a “Hot Mess,” Sparking Papoose Feud
The controversy began after Shields hosted a listening party in Atlanta on November 2 to preview music from her upcoming album, What Did You Expect.
The event, which celebrated her growing music career, featured Shields wearing a fitted black jumpsuit with lace-up detailing along the back.
Davis reposted footage of the boxer posing in her outfit to his Instagram Story and tagged her directly.
“You look a hot a** mess,” he wrote.
His remarks immediately caught the attention of Papoose, who responded by criticizing Davis’ performance against Roach and questioning his explanation for taking a knee during their fight.
However, Davis refused to back down.
In a now-deleted Instagram Story, the boxer threatened Papoose, writing, “@papoose I would put you to sleep,” before warning the rapper against confronting him.
Papoose responded with additional insults, including references to past domestic violence allegations involving Davis. The boxer has disputed allegations against him in legal proceedings.
The exchanges have since circulated across social media, with fans weighing in on the increasingly personal dispute.
Claressa Shields Turns Outfit Controversy Into Promotion for New Music
Despite the back-and-forth, Shields has also used the attention to promote her music.
Before her latest remarks, the boxing champion responded to Davis’ criticism by encouraging followers to stream her new single, “Party.”
The track is part of her latest venture into hip-hop, with Shields previewing several songs from her forthcoming project during the Atlanta listening event.
Her relationship with Papoose has also remained a major talking point, particularly as the rapper continues publicly defending her against criticism.
For now, Davis has not publicly responded to Shields’ latest comments about his boxing career.
