Beyoncé gave the BeyHive a surprise Fourth of July gift with the official release of her long-unreleased song “Morning Dew (Donk).”
The track arrived on streaming platforms early Saturday morning and immediately sparked excitement online. Its release marks the beginning of a 60-day countdown to the 20th anniversary reissue of Beyoncé’s sophomore album, B’Day, which is set to arrive on September 4, the singer’s birthday.
According to Parkwood Entertainment, “Morning Dew (Donk)” was released as a direct nod to Beyoncé’s longtime fans. The song also arrived with a lyric video directed by Cliff Watts, using archival footage tied to the singer’s earlier era.
The song has held a special place in BeyHive lore for years. It was reportedly recorded in 2013, later surfaced through snippets, and eventually became one of the unreleased Beyoncé tracks fans kept asking about online.
“Morning Dew (Donk)” was written by Beyoncé, Pharrell Williams, The-Dream and Darius Dixon. Beyoncé and Pharrell also handled production on the track.
The release brings renewed attention to B’Day, which originally dropped on September 4, 2006. The album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and produced several major records, including “Déjà Vu,” “Ring the Alarm” and “Irreplaceable.” Beyoncé later expanded the era with a deluxe edition and the B’Day Anthology Video Album.
The surprise drop also marks Beyoncé’s first new music since Cowboy Carter, her Grammy-winning 2024 album. While fans continue to speculate about the next chapter of her Renaissance trilogy, “Morning Dew (Donk)” appears focused on celebrating the past while setting up another major anniversary moment.
For now, the BeyHive has a new old favorite to stream while the countdown to B’Day begins.
