Baby Keem is not interested in being placed in a “new generation” box.
During a recent interview with Elsie Not Elise, the Las Vegas rapper opened up about his latest album, Ca$ino, his creative process and the level of confidence he is bringing into this stage of his career. When the conversation turned to hip-hop’s current “Big Three” — Kendrick Lamar, Drake and J. Cole — Keem made it clear that he sees himself competing on a much bigger scale.
When asked whether he wants to become a leading figure for the newer generation of rap, Keem pushed back on the idea entirely. According to him, separating artists by generation can limit the conversation instead of raising the standard.
“No. I think it’s like a cop-out,” Keem said, explaining that labels like “new generation” place unnecessary boundaries on music.
Keem went on to say that his goal is not simply to dominate among newer artists. Instead, he wants to be considered one of the greatest rappers of all time.
“I want to be one of the greatest of all time,” he said, before adding that he believes he is already better than some members of the current Big Three.
The comment quickly caught attention because of Keem’s close ties to Kendrick Lamar, who is also his cousin and frequent collaborator. The two have worked together on records including “family ties” and “range brothers,” helping Keem build his own lane while still being connected to one of the most respected names in modern hip-hop.
Still, Keem’s latest remarks show that he is not looking to sit in anyone’s shadow. His message was clear: he does not want to be viewed as the best of a smaller category. He wants to be judged against the biggest names in rap.
