Ariana Grande is preparing to take an extended break from the spotlight once her Eternal Sunshine Tour comes to an end this fall.
A representative for the Grammy-winning singer said Grande plans to reduce her public-facing work after the tour’s final show on Sept. 1. The decision reportedly follows months of online speculation, tabloid coverage and social media commentary surrounding her body and physical appearance.
“Ariana will be taking a step back from visibility after she completes the Eternal Sunshine Tour,” her representative said in a statement.
The spokesperson added that Grande hopes to complete the tour “healthily and happily” before taking a much-needed break from appearances that have resulted in “endless, ongoing public scrutiny.”
Grande has spent recent months performing for sold-out audiences during the international tour, which her team described as a demanding and highly physical production.
Despite continued rumors concerning her health, those close to the “We Can’t Be Friends” singer said she has maintained an intense schedule and continued performing at a high level throughout the tour.
“This tour has been a beautiful experience for her,” the representative said, noting that Grande has performed successfully “night after night.”
However, the planned hiatus has already resulted in changes to the singer’s upcoming projects.
Grande has reportedly withdrawn from a planned West End revival of Stephen Sondheim’s Sunday in the Park with George. She had been expected to appear in the London production next summer, but the project will now move forward without her as she prioritizes time away from public life.
The announcement arrives as Grande continues to face widespread discussion about her appearance, particularly following the release of her recent “Petal” music video. Photos and clips from the project prompted another round of unsolicited comments about her weight across social media.
Grande has previously urged fans to avoid making assumptions about another person’s health based solely on their appearance.
In a 2023 TikTok video, she explained that the body many people had described as her “healthiest” was actually connected to a difficult period in her life. She also encouraged people to be gentler when discussing bodies, even when they believe their comments are well-intentioned.
Grande has remained one of entertainment’s most recognizable stars for more than a decade, balancing a chart-topping music career with high-profile acting roles. She recently returned to the big screen as Glinda in the Wicked film franchise, earning praise for her performance.
Her upcoming break will reportedly begin immediately after the Eternal Sunshine Tour concludes. Grande has not revealed how long the hiatus will last or when she expects to return to music, acting or live performances.
