Russell Simmons tried to take part in a viral Migos AI trend featuring his ex-wife Kimora Lee Simmons, but his daughter Aoki Lee Simmons was clearly not amused.

The music executive shared an AI-generated video on Instagram Thursday showing digital versions of himself and Kimora appearing to perform along to Quavo and Takeoff’s “Hotel Lobby.”

Alongside the clip, Russell reflected on his decades-long relationship with Kimora and congratulated her on an upcoming documentary.

But Aoki quickly jumped into the comments with a blunt response.

“Shit like this is why Ming and I don’t follow you,” she wrote.

The remark immediately drew attention online, turning what appeared to be a nostalgic post from Russell into another public moment of tension within the Simmons family.

In his caption, Russell described himself and Kimora as a strong team during their years together.

He referenced roughly 15 years of dating and marriage, followed by what he described as another two decades of friendship and co-parenting.

“We worked good as a team,” Russell wrote.

He also praised what he called their “conscious uncoupling and coparenting” and wished Kimora success in her next chapter.

“I am sincerely Praying for your continued success,” he wrote, while also congratulating her on her upcoming documentary.

The post came as older details surrounding the beginning of Russell and Kimora’s relationship resurfaced online.

In footage from her upcoming documentary, Kimora reflected on meeting Russell while she was still a teenage model.

Kimora said she was 16 years old at the time and recalled Russell being approximately 18 years older than her.

She described noticing him repeatedly appearing at the end of fashion runways before eventually approaching her backstage.

“I definitely was like, ‘Who is the weird guy at the end of the runway?’” Kimora recalled.

She also revealed that Tyra Banks once tried to keep her away from Russell.

According to Kimora, Banks kept her at her apartment for a weekend in an attempt to stop her from returning home and checking messages from him.

At the time, Kimora said she thought Tyra was simply interfering.

“I felt a little bit like she was hating for sure,” she said.

Looking back, however, Kimora acknowledged that Banks may have been trying to protect her.

“She was trying to protect me,” she said.

While Russell’s post appeared intended as a positive reflection on his history with Kimora, Aoki’s reaction quickly became the biggest talking point.

Her comment suggested that she and her sister Ming Lee Simmons have distanced themselves from their father on social media.

Aoki did not elaborate further in the comment.

Russell ended his original message by wishing Kimora well as she enters what he described as her “next chapter.”
