Akon has a new hustle in mind, and this one is aimed straight at the hairline.

During a recent interivew on Big Boy’s Neighborhood, around the 52 minute mark, the singer said he plans to get into the men’s hair-unit business. And he did not sound like he was joking. His whole point was pretty simple. “these things are already everywhere and people are underestimating how big the market really is. They sell more than wigs,” he said.

He goes on to say that units can cost up to $2,000, and plenty of men — including celebrities — already wear them. He then shared his journey, adding that he started cutting his hair because of gradual thinning around the crown. Eventually, in 2022, he got a hair transplant in Turkey that cost him $7,500. He admitted the procedure was painful, especially the numbing part, and when the internet turned his hairline into a meme, he laughed it off instead of acting defensive.

He goes on to say that he still wears a hairpiece himself and talked pretty casually about the upkeep that comes with it, especially when he is traveling and cannot always get it touched up. He also broke down what a hair unit actually is in the most straightforward way possible: a piece that covers the area where you are losing hair while the sides stay natural.

As such, while there is no launch date, no brand name, and no product rollout yet, he admits to be actively working on it behind the scenes.

What is interesting is the singer is talking about male grooming in a way a lot of men still do not. No fake shame, no pretending it is not happening, no acting like vanity belongs only to women. He is treating it like maintenance, which is probably how a lot of men already see it privately, even if they would never say it out loud
