Teyana Taylor’s Oscars run-in with security is now drawing a response from the Academy.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences said it was “extremely upset” after Taylor was shoved by a security guard at the end of the March 15 ceremony, when she tried to get back onstage following One Battle After Another winning Best Picture.

The organization said in a statement obtained by Deadline that Taylor had been “nothing short of remarkable, supportive, kind, and all about community” throughout awards season, and added that while the incident involved outside security firm SIS, guest experience was still its responsibility. The Academy said it had made clear that the behavior was not acceptable and thanked Taylor for showing “remarkable grace.”

SIS also addressed the incident in its own statement addressed to Variety. The company said there was a “brief interaction” between Taylor and one of its staff members while security was managing a crowded area and trying to keep guests safe. SIS described the contact as incidental, said it regretted that the situation escalated, and added that the matter had been handled internally.

The moment was not shown on the Oscars telecast, but the video recorded inside the Dolby Theatre and shared online showed Taylor confronting the guard. In the footage, she accused him of “being rude” and called him out for “putting his hands on a female”.

Taylor later said she was not going to let the moment ruin the night. Speaking to TMZ, she said security was “just doing a lot” and added, “There’s always that one,” while making clear she does not tolerate disrespect. She later thanked the Academy on X, publicly for speaking out in support of her, tweeting: “Thank you to @TheAcademy I really appreciate your unwavering love & support.”

Taylor had attended the ceremony as a Best Supporting Actress nominee for One Battle After Another, but lost the category to Amy Madigan. The film still had a major night, taking Best Picture and a total of six Oscars.
